PEHEL Magazin

PEHEL is an annual academic Magazine of the Department of Mass Communication. It was founded and initiated by Assistant Professor Dr. Sikandar Zarren, who is the Founding Editor of the Magazine. PEHEL is the first magazine in the history of the Federal Urdu University Islamabad. It serves as a creative and intellectual platform where students and faculty express their ideas through writing, research and articles. The magazine reflects contemporary social issues, media trends and students'perspectives while promoting critical thinking, ethical journalism and professional values. PEHEL highlights student talent and encourages responsible expression in line with academic standards. PEHEL Magazine is the first-ever academic magazine in the history of the Federal Urdu University Islamabad. Published as an annual magazine in every Fall Semester, PEHEL provides a structured platform where students work through editorial, rewriting and production/ publication teams each year. Along with student contributions, the magazine also includes professional opinions and insights, enriching its academic and journalistic value. PEHEL reflects contemporary social and media issues while nurturing students’ writing skills, critical thinking and professional media practices.

Jo Hum Pe Guzri

This book is compiled and edited by Assistant Professor Dr. Sikander Zarren from the department of Mass Communication. It's a book that reflects practical learning, creative expression and experiences of graduating students. The book is a compilation of columns written by students as part of the course of "Editorial Feature and Column Writing", where they were assigned practical journalistic work under academic supervision. These columns were not only written as classroom exercises but were also published in newspapers, giving students real world exposure to professional journalism. The book represents the outcome of this practical training, highlighting students’ ability to observe society, analyze issues and express informed opinions through column writing. This book also includes personal reflections and memories of graduating students. These writings document their academic journey, experiences and emotional connection with University life. In this way, 'Jo Hum Pe Guzri So Guzri' serves both as a record of practical journalistic training and as a written memory of university life, making it an important academic and historical contribution for students, teachers and institutions alike.

Deeep Newspaper

Deeep Newspaper is an academic and training based publication that provides practical exposure to students of Mass Communication. It is published in E form on a quarterly basis (every 3 months) and serves as a learning platform where students actively participate in the complete news production process. The newspaper is edited under the supervision of Dr. Sikandar Zarren, who serves as its founding Editor. Through Deep Newspaper, students receive hands-on training in reporting, news writing, news editing, sub editing, page layout and page making, enabling them to understand professional journalistic standards. Deeep Newspaper also covers university level academic and co-curricular activities, including seminars, Conferences, Convocations, Orientations, Sports Gala, Vice Chancellor statements and Department Activities. In this way, its pages not only reflect students’ journalistic practice but also document the academic and institutional history of the University. The publication bridges theory and practice by allowing students to apply classroom learning to real newsroom work, making Deeep Newspaper an important part of media education and practical training.
